The 9th Annual Young Child Expo and Conference

 

Dr. Shelia Evans-Tranumn, Former Associate Commissioner of Education in NYS and National and International Consultant will be accepting the Excellence in Early Childhood Award bestowed by Fordham University’s Graduate School of Education. She will be speaking on the negative effects that toxic stress has on young children and will present solutions for altering these negative effects, and explain how each of us can help.

Cecelia McCarton, MD, Executive Director of The McCarton Foundation/McCarton School will speak on recent therapeutic advances both in diagnosis and in treatment of ASD. Current alternatives medically and therapeutically will also be critically discussed.

Harold S. Kolpewicz, MD, President of the Child Mind Institute will discuss the wariness and even fear that some parents have of the diagnosis, how to fight the stigma surrounding ADHD, and tools kids and families can use to maintain self-esteem while living with the disorder.

John Archambault, Author of Chicka Chicka Boom Boom will entertain, inspire and delight as he models and shares "The Joy of Language." You'll be reminded of the power of patterned language to stir the heart and set the brain dancing with the magic of the 3 R's - Rhyme, Rhythm and Repetition.

Scott Bellini, PhD, Research and Clinical Director of the Indiana Resource Center for Autism at Indiana University, Bloomington; Director of the Social Skills Research Center and Assistant Professor of School Psychology.

Paul A. Law, MD, MPH, Director of Medical Informatics at the Kennedy Krieger Institute, and Principal Investigator
of the Interactive Autism Network (IAN), and Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Johns Hopkins University
School of Medicine. Dr. Law and his wife are the parents of a young adult with ASD.

There will be two pre-conference workshops to choose from, presented by:

Stephen Kanne, PhD, ABPP, Director of the Autism Center and Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the Baylor College of Medicine and Kristin Sohl, MD, Medical Director and Director of the Division of Biomedical Services at the Thompson Center. Drs. Kanne and Sohl will conduct a workshop on best practice approaches to screening and diagnosis of autism.

Jon Bailey, PhD, BCBA-D, Professor Emeritus of Psychology at Florida State University. Dr. Bailey will conduct a workshop on ethical issues in applied behavior analysis.

This conference aims to educate and provide support for parents and professionals who work with individuals with autism spectrum disorders, including educators, psychologists, speech/language pathologists, medical professionals, applied
behavior analysts, employment specialists, vocational rehabilitation counselors, service coordinators, and advocates.

The conference strives to provide an atmosphere of hope and upholds a commitment to sharing comprehensive,

The 8th Annual Young Child Expo and Conference

 

Dr. Ami Klin, Director of the Autism Program at Yale University, will be accepting the
Excellence in Early Childhood Award
bestowed by Fordham University’s Graduate School of Education for his
groundbreaking research in early assessment of autism. Dr. Klin and his research team are pushing the boundaries of
early identification down to infants only months old. Using analysis of eye gaze upon human-like figures the researchers have significantly differentiated infants who grow typically versus those who are later identified with autism spectrum disorders.

Ellen Birnbaum and Nancy Schulman, Directors of the 92nd St. Y Nursery School, will speak
on how to facilitate a great school home partnership, and how to address typical challenges
faced by the professionals and the parents in this process.

Dr. Jack Naglieri, Professor of Psychology at George Mason University and author of 250 scientific
articles, books and assessment measures, will conduct a workshop on early childhood assessment.

Dr. Steven Kurtz, Senior Director, Selective Mutism Program, Child Mind Institute to present on
assessing and treating Selective Mutism in young children which affects 1 child in 140.
